Encounters: India
With over 100 events and 120 artists, the fourth Encounters Festival takes over Brisbane’s South Bank cultural precinct and the West End until May 19. Encounters: India reflects the near-overwhelming vastness of India with a program of music, film, visual arts, food and community events. The South Bank precinct has been transformed into a bustling parade of contemporary India. At the Nepalese Pavilion, a lone sitar player greets the dawn; an Indian Bazaar evokes the colours and fragrances of a Delhi market on the Forecourt; throughout the parklands and streets, bursts of Bollywood recharge the mind’s battery; the Queensland Conservatorium’s many spaces echo to myriad musical styles from more than 50 concerts and masterclasses.

Stories Then & Now Premieres in May
Stories Then & Now brings together six Asian Australians in a stunning theatrical storytelling performance with image projection. War forces a couple to abandon their daughter, robs a young man of ambition, and inspires a daring bid for freedom. A dancer buries her heartbreak in burlesque; a busy young professional outsources her quest for a husband; while a traveller finally embraces her cultural homeland. These deeply personal stories link past lives in China, Indonesia, Korea, Sri Lanka and Vietnam with contemporary lives in Australia.
Directed by photographer and master storyteller William Yang and writer/producer Annette Shun Wah with music by composer Nicholas Ng.
Following on from the success of Stories East & West, this new show premieres at:

Jennifer Wong is Spineless
It's Melbourne Comedy Festival time again, and Performance 4a's Jennifer Wong returns with a new show. A bookworm with no book to her name stands face-to-face with page fright. Or tries to stand, what with the no spine and all. After sold-out shows in Melbourne and Sydney, comedian Jennifer Wong is reunited with her first love: books and writing. Inspired by Woody Allen, Dorothy Parker and David Sedaris, Jennifer Wong knows what she wants. But attempts to follow in the writers’ footsteps are not easy, and further complicated by the fact that one of them is dead. Expect stand-up on this invertebrate existence, with shameless pitches to publishers. 28 March - 21 April at the Portland Hotel. Melbourne International Comedy Festival
