Australia and me
Australia and Me is a new TV series for ABC’s satellite service Australia Network. The production is seeking immigrants – particularly female and Chinese – to talk about their experiences living, studying and/or working in Australia. Interviewees from outside Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are of particular interest. The Australia Network is a satellite service beamed to 22 million homes in the Asia-Pacific. Devil's 6 Commandments on US Cable
Australian feature film, The Devil’s 6 Commandments, written and directed by Dicky Tanuwidjaya and starring Felino Dolloso has been sold to AMC, the US cable channel that launched Mad Men. Dolloso is in high demand, working on feature films Suppose the Night Tasted Like Sugar, Seeing the Elephant, Pitbulls, Quest for Jackie Chan and Me and My Parents. He’s currently in rehearsals for Subtlenuance Theatre’s stage play A Quiet Night in Rangoon, written by Katie Pollock and directed by Paul Gilchrist. Check his interview on the Asians on Film site.

International award for Ponferrada?
Another gong may be in sight for filmmaker Martin Ponferrada. “Ken, The Coconut Boy, Who Loves Animals” has been nominated for Best International Short at the International Youth Film Festival in Port Talbot, Wales. The film is about a day in the life of a young boy in the Philippine tropics. When his family’s fruit supply runs out, 9 year old Ken goes in search of a coconut. A detour provides the setting for a shocking scene. The festival takes place 3-8 August. Good luck Martin!

public readings of s.E. Asian plays
Five South East Asian playwrights bring their work to Melbourne on 18 & 19 August. Following intensive workshops with students of the Victorian College of the Arts, semi-staged public readings of five exciting works - each followed by a Q&A with the playwright - take place at the Victorian Arts Centre. Admission is free but bookings required.
